Written for a Remembrance Day assignment in high school.
Here I sit all tender hearted,
Thoughts of solders now departed.
On this day many years ago,
The bullets stopped flying to and fro.
Hands were shaken,
Pacts were signed.
War was ended,
And peace designed.
Now we remember,
Those who died.
Families they left,
And how they cried.
To keep the world free from the iron grip,
Is why they fought.
A place of liberty for their children,
Is what they sought.
So today we think of those who died,
To keep our country free.
And we wear a poppy o’re our hearts,
For everyone to see.
