inspired by "Ho Hey" by The Lumineers

I know the story; I was there.
         How did we drift so far apart?
You in your life, me in mine
         When all I want is your heart.

I guess that I forgot to look
         When you turned away from me.
I was busy with the rat-race;
         I was careless, I agree.

So you found another love.
         Now my soul is wand’ring ‘round
As if lost in some dense mist,
         Listening for a heartfelt sound.

Not sure just where this is going;
         Know I long for your return.
Will you turn back … see me waiting?
         Some lessons are too hard to learn.
