A brief comedy poem about the complexities of the game of Chess
The game of Chess, a battle
Set on a chequered board
A match of wits and cunning
Security falsely lured

The Kings, the Queens and Bishops
Each move ages in design
Sitting there deep in thought
Slowly passing time

Another pawn bites the dust
Then there falls a Knight
But have they left a chance for me?
Is there a chink of light?

They left their King unguarded
Now if I move my Rook....
Oh no! Oh damn! Checkmate again?
Stuff this, I’ll read a book!
