A descriptive Poem about National Hunt Horse Racing in the UK
"Pride comes before a fall" so the saying goes
And none more proud or noble than the horse
Every muscle and sinew stretched to its capacity
As you bound, onwards, towards your fate
The next fence, a leap into the unknown
Thundering hooves, squeaking leather
The crack of a whip, encouraging shouts
Wind whistling through mane and tail
Another birch-lined obstacle confronts
Jump free, soaring on invisible wings
For a fleeting moment success beckons
A cheering crowd awaits
An owner, with tears of joy,
The trainer, smiles, a job well done
The glory, the adulation, the prize
Then,
A tangle of legs and twigs
Ground rushing to meet you
Legs buckle, head bowed
Time stands still
Soft turf welcomes the fall
No glory, No adulation, no prize
Another day, maybe.
