Why business people should be particular about who they work with.
|I have always known that working with people you want to work with, which need the programs you offer, is important. An incident on Friday reminded me, though. I was messaged on Facebook from someone just saying they worked with “an influencer”. I was bombarded with messages for most of the afternoon trying to pressure me into a call that day. I didn’t have the time but encouraged the person to send me their schedule for this week. That never happened and I eventually just told the person that we would not be a good fit to work together. Did I miss out on money or just getting involved with a very aggravating situation? I am not sure.
I want to work with business owners who are going through a change or transition in their businesses or in their lives that influence their businesses. That is the first thing I have decided. I want to work with business owners, not administrative assistants. I want to work with the people that make the decisions. I am hoping that insisting on this will, at least, lessen the incidents like I experienced on Friday. I have been through three transitions before ending up in a position in which I feel comfortable working and am able to make the most impact and help the most people.
You, as a business owner, must work with, and surround yourself with, people that work like you, have similar goals, and are at the some motivational level as you. Business is a lot like socializing, in a way. We socialize with people that have the some interests, values and ideals that we have. In business we have to try to work with those businesses that have similar work ethics and business values that we stress in our own businesses. This makes conducting business much easier. If you do this, you and the people that you work with will be on the same page from day one of your association. This can even help make resolving conflicts less stressful.
When I decided to become a writer/business person I had to adopt an outlook that was more other-oriented. I was excited about this because I love people and working with others. When I created my business “Transition To Success” I knew that working with the right people was essential. In my writing I used a character sketch to develop the characters which inhabited my imaginary worlds. I realized that the same type of sketch would be helpful in identifying the perfect client for me and “Transition To Success”. Something I used in my writing could be also be used in my business. The two templates are almost identical. You have to be able to envision your characters in order to make them vivid to your reader. In business you have to do the same thing. You ideal client has to be a real person in your mind in order to create posts and content in your groups to attract the people you want to work with to your programs.
For me, my business is not about me. It is about my people. If they meet their goals, I will meet mine. I know exactly who I will work with the best and who I can serve the best.
