A dad and his daughter take a walk in the park
I wish that I could make you smile
It would mean the world to me
Maybe for one moment
You’d be happy and carefree
Maybe you’d forget just once
The troubles that we had
Maybe you’d remember
That the world is not all bad

I wish that I could make you laugh
You know that would be great
A little laugh could wash away
All the bitterness and hate
Maybe you would hug me too
And brighten up my day
Maybe you could see that life
Is better off that way

I wish that I could dry your tears
I’d do all that I could
I’d try to ease your heartache
And fill it up with good
Maybe you would cry no more
You’d find a way to smile
Maybe you would love me too
Just for a little while

Your mom and I still love you so
It’s not your fault at all
We simply could not get along
Since you were very small
It wasn’t anybody’s fault
In time you’ll be okay
Someday the sun will shine again
And wash away the gray
