A quarter for your thoughts
Biting cold
Steam rises from my mouth
(Like a dragon?)
like bits of my soul.
Fingers play
with a quarter in my pocket.
Flipping it back and forth from
heads to tails wondering
if perhaps I’m changing the
faces of fate.
(Heads)
She trusts me and forgives me.
(Tails)
She hates me and our love has been stretched out
to the breaking point.
(Heads)
Our hearts grow stronger
(Tails)
Two strong hearts
become four halves.
I inhale a deep breath
(Dragon’s Fire turns to ice)
The bits of my soul bracingly cold
As they return to me and I round
the corner
where she waits.
