We've had lots of snow this year and lots of grown-ups whine, but when we were kids...
Long, Wonderful Winter

Remember days when the snow
fell and stayed and grew, and the
sledding hills were well-traveled,
packed slick and fast, and
kids came home red-faced and wet, and
mothers "AHK-ed" and "OH-MY-ed" and
hurried those kids down to the cellar to
"Hang up those wet things!" but
the kids rarely did because
they were thinking of hot cocoa and
maybe a cookie or two and
the cartoons coming on soon, and
when they were warm and dry and
wonderfully tired, friends came
calling to go sledding again, and
somehow the wet clothes had been
hung up or thrown in the dryer
(except for those leather mittens
which never seemed to dry),
and kids would climb into
snow pants and parkas
quick as firemen, and be back
outdoors for more rounds of
slow ups and fast downs,
not tired at all anymore.
