A short story for the Daily Flash Fiction Challenge
"Hey, Greg, what are you doing? Is that a robot?" said Mark as he walks up to Greg's garage.

"Yes, I am trying to get it to work. I was hoping it can help me around the house. Cook, clean, mow the lawn, etc. But I am having some difficulty. I cannot figure out why it is not functioning. Do you mind giving me a hand?" asked Greg

"I can try, but I do not think it work." Said Mark.

The two of them worked on it for hours and when done Greg gets ready to turn it on.

"Ok, here goes nothing." Said Greg.

He turns the robot on, and it starts to light up. Greg tries a few commands, but the robot just stands there in front of them. Says nothing and does nothing. Puzzled, Greg puts the robot in sleep mode and the two of them walk out of the garage.

"I was sure it would work this time. Well, I am tired, I will figure this out tomorrow. Thanks for your help though." Said Greg.

"No problem, but I told you it wouldn't work. I wouldn't waste too much time with that. I will see you tomorrow." Said Mark as he walks across the street to his house.

The next day Mark comes downstairs and starts making coffee. He walks to the front door and heads out to get the paper. On his back he stops halfway. He turns around slowly and looks back again and at his neighbor's house across the street. There in the front yard was a robot mowing the lawn. It turns his head and waves at Mark. He slowly waves back, and walks inside his house he sits. He drinks his coffee.

"I guess it did work." He said.
