Poem about how to get on after the loss of a child
You’ll never get over it, they said
I know, I said
You can’t make it, they said
I know, I said
Your life is over, they said
I know, I said
You must leave here, they said
I know, I said

Five years later…

You got over it? They asked
I didn’t, I said
You made it? They asked
I did, I said
Your life isn’t over? They asked
I know, I said
But you left us anyway, they said
I had to, I said

Why? They asked
You were holding me back, I said
From what? They asked
Moving on, I said
But you lost your child, they said
I know, I said
How did you manage? They asked
By leaving you, I said
