Great things come in small packages...

The remainder of the six-person international team were inside the habitat, watching as Lana and Ian conducted today's exploration. Now that the world had come together in cooperation rather than in competition, lunar exploration was finally moving forward again. This was the first of a series of 30-day explorations with a goal of acquiring detailed knowledge of our celestial companion.

"Lana!" Ian's excited voice crackled through the speakers. The whole team was suddenly locked on the monitor at the sound of the urgency in the voice of the normally unflappable Ian.

His helmet camera was fixed on an obviously unnatural form beneath a gray rock ledge. The monitor showed his gloved hand retrieving what looked like a 3 inch cube. He brushed away the sticky gray dust, revealing a surface that appeared similar to pink jade.

"Those marks", it was Lana's voice. "They look like cuneiform markings". On the monitor, they could see the rows of small markings covering all surfaces of the cube. As he turned the cube, one side lifted up, revealing the inside. He turned the cube, and a small object fell out.

"What?" exclaimed Lana. "What is the meaning of this?"

There, in Ian's gloved hand, lay a small cross. He gently turned it over, and there, under the light of the cold lunar sky, they saw a small figure, its outstretched arms attached to the cross. He leaned closer, and his camera revealed the reptilian face of the figurine.

"What indeed", he responded softly, "what indeed".
