Choices made in the heat of argument are not wise to act upon. Haste can be tragic.
Winter’s pale light shone soft thru my window
I wrote your name in the frost
I was so angry, so damned self-righteous
I never considered the cost
Heart broke and battered
Not seeing what mattered,
‘til I saw your tracks in the snow

Facing the cold wind, racing down dark streets
Wondering how far you’d gone
I’d been so selfish; I hadn’t listened
My weakness that I’d felt so strong
Shaken and shattered
now nothing else mattered
I followed your tracks in the snow

God knows that everyone has made mistakes
Forgiveness is part of the game
We know the high stakes
The danger of heartaches
Still we play on just the same
My heart pounded so hard
I stood before your yard
I saw his tracks in the snow

Winter’s pale light shines soft thru my window
I write your name in the frost
I play the fool acting so calm so cool
Pretending I don’t feel the loss
But inside I’m churning
Thought’s twisting and turning
Yearning for tracks in the snow
