A Seasonal Song - Written for 7/19 round of Rising Stars Rising to the Challenge Contest.
|The Summer storms come roaring wildly in,
such fury and sound to drench the dry lands.
Where heat has coiled itself in shifting sands,
the blessed water signals renewal to begin.
The flight of fear is swift on southbound wings
as the light of the fading day grows weak.
When shadows grow long the bursting colors peak,
and the wind through crimson, gold, and russet sings.
The whispered lull of love, a quieting hymn
when the hush of creeping winter comes.
Beneath coldest ground a waiting life still hums
with knowing her green heart will beat again.
The hardest hope is where despair has been,
but the advent of Spring is a wakened world.
Each sweet bud of white and verdant leaf unfurled,
held gentle and soft in their newborn skin.
