Poverty

Poverty is knowing what you want
And letting it go,
Knowing it will never be yours.

Poverty is knowing what you need
But not having it until
The need is urgent,
Surrendering to the timing
Of God’s faithful provision.

Poverty means traveling lightly through life
Unhampered and unhindered
By maintenance and protection
of property and possessions.

Poverty means humility and dependence
On the kindness of others,
Second-hand clothes
Second-hand furniture
Second-hand dreams
Discounted
Unclaimed.

Poverty has only one Source
Only one Hope
Only one Refuge
He who never leaves nor forsakes us
Who sees our every tear
Hears our every cry
Those with sound-waves
And those without.
