It had a dark start & a coal chamber end, I changed it in the interests of public safety.
Living my life for no reason
A prison built only for one
No windows to see past regrets
Or to feel the warmth of the sun

Trying to see why....what was my problem?
Dying inside my own heart
Those who's love that I needed
Separated from, then torn apart

Masking my sadness with denial
Smiling only from false joy
Paying the price from bad choices
Relationships lost and love destroyed

Self pity is nothing to be proud of
I'm not the victim in this story I tell
The true victims are those left by the wayside
Why I rot in this prison cell

Standing at the crossroads of life
The choice which way to go has been made
Releasing past transgressions
And the debts incurred are repaid

Forgiveness is a hard thing to give
When the one I must forgive is me
But that is the key to getting out
Letting go of guilt and setting myself free
