Some punkins are just born bad.
Beyond the creaky cemetery gates
On gloomy land once consecrated
Now more than a decade desecrated
Among the somber, broken gravestones
Stands the lone crumbling sepulcher
That moss covered, forgotten tomb
His stygian womb

An infant most infernal, he
Suckled from a rancid teat
Of moldy earth’s Satanic beat
For his umbral birthing bed
The sarcophagus of the dead
Like the creeping vines on Gallows Hill
He came to life one Hallows’ Eve

Exhumed into autumn’s fog
Baying like a hellish hog
Just a glimpse could cause tears
The sum of many children’s fears
Tall body emaciated
Gnarled and gaunt
Ashen flesh, fire-licked
His visage;
The blazing Jack O’Lantern

Hunger driven
Confused and bewildered
He shambles ‘round a spell
Stops to sag and slouch
Before him kneels a sickly girl
Never a sliver so ragged and sad
Bony frail
Deathly pale
Neglected of hair
Tattered not fair

Against his flaming gaze
The urchin has to brace
Wavers with a playful craze
His cindered breath, a heady haze
Her lips break a cruel smile
Reveals to him a secret sign
The branding of a devil’s pact
Says to him:

“Do not look at me like so
Saint Pumpkin, I am thy mother
Thine flesh I have knit
Thine candles I have lit,
From rotten bodies and funeral pyres
The plump fruits of gibbet trees
Thine fat hath trickled
Betwixt mine fingers,
This one and that one.”

With fiendish, knowing glee
The ghoulish little vamp
Proposes him a wicked cramp
Immoral and unscrupulous
Her morbid heart yearns for his
In a boneyard wedding, say yes, please
The witch for the jack of all trades
The queen for the king of all pumpkins
