Trying to finish a task on time, but running disastrously late.
Trying to finish the task before dawn;
yet I am running disastrously late.
My task is to disarm the cobalt bomb.

Should it explode then the Earth would be gone;
it would be sad if we suffered such fate.
Trying to finish the task before dawn.

I see the bomb and my face becomes drawn;
it fell to Earth at a quarter to eight.
My task is to disarm the cobalt bomb.

I heard the crash as it smashed in my lawn;
aliens from on high dropped by their hate.
Trying to finish the task before dawn.

There is a timer with all the lights on;
I work in frenzy so it will abate.
My task is to disarm the cobalt bomb.

Despite my panic I work with aplomb;
glued to my job because Heaven can wait.
Trying to finish the task before dawn;
my task is to disarm the cobalt bomb.
