A 30 line poem written for Week 2 of the Dark Dreamscapes Octoberfest competition.
Out Of The Mists

From out of the mists they come.
No shouted warning,
no battle cry,
just a steady shuffling gait
of bone on bone.
A scream!
It seems like they've been seen.
Cut short, hushed,
for their approach
sucks up every
Except bone on bone.
Heads raised high,
eyes glow with hatred;
red of flames
fed by blood and fear.
Don't go expecting mercy
for it's plain to see
that none will be forthcoming
from these hungry hordes.
Not for food do they hunger,
with no bellies to fill;
a thirst for life
will keep them
marching onwards
until all has been
by those who stepped forth
out of the mists.
