Thanksgiving will be coming soon

Thanksgiving Day is coming soon
The family will be here
Your sister had the crowd last time
It is your turn this year

There is so much to get prepared
You don’t know where to start
You feel so overwhelmed and lost
Just listen to your heart

You try to settle down and plan
The main thing is the feast
You role your sleeves up and step in
To tangle with that beast

You look around your battleground
And heave a big deep sigh
You must put order to this mess
Although you want to cry

The kitchen is a scary place
So protect yourself from harm
The oven and the microwave
Can sound a loud alarm

The cutlery contains sharp knives
They look menacing and cruel
Although they seem to be a threat
They are nothing but a tool

They’ve seen the worst that man can do
He butchers and he bakes
He cooks and eats most anything
Anything that he can make

There is some talk of mutiny now
Across the kitchen floor
Where once there was sweet harmony
There isn’t anymore

A man cannot control this place
The way a woman can
Just keep that man far, far away
Enforce a kitchen ban

The pantry is all stocked with food
Some old and out of date
If you’re not choosy what to use
You may just test your fate

The cooktop casts a feeble flame
The oven overheats
The timer that you use to cook
Will often skip some beats

There is some discord brewing too
Some things are out of whack
The plates are stacked in silent scorn
As the pot calls the kettle black

The forks are spooning in the drawer
But what are we to do?
They think if spoons can have their way
Then they can do it too

The glasses are all out of sorts
They used to be so bright
But they see spots before their eyes
When held up to the light

Thanksgiving will be here too soon
There’s no time left to waste
Each pot and plate must be scrubbed clean
Each bowl will have its place

You must set everything just right
Before Thanksgiving Day
The turkey will expect the best
It’s always been that way
