An exploration of the danger of humanity to itself
|Dancing like a seductive gypsy woman
With her eyes flashing, her skin red,
This fire flickers and undulates,
Giving us warmth, light,
And devastation, in a world
Traumatized by a splitting atom.
Enlightened wickedness, or
Unenlightened warmth, a blessing and
A curse, humanity's discovery.
Will we survive, or be lost in orgies
Of slaughter and destruction?
Should we embrace this fire?
There are many woods to burn.
Should we heap fire on our enemies,
Turning their cities into infernos,
Killing both the innocent and the guilty?
We've left German and Japanese cities
Blazing in the night. Then humanity's
Innocence was lost in two brilliant flashes.
Our appetite for destruction
Has become too deadly, and
Can no longer be trusted, and we are
Left with this sinister law -
Mutually Assured Destruction.
