The gift of a day...
Cloaked, shadowy figure
bearing cutting scythe
stops by bedside
of rasping, sickly man.

"One more day"
cries he,
to experience
the world.

Hollow eyes consider
skeletal fingers rise to chin,
a silent nod
of acquiescence.

A glowing flush falls
over the old man's cheeks.
Radiant health
plumps wrinkles.

The man jumps
from the bed,
eyes alight in eager delight.

He walks
under vibrant trees,
enjoying the sunlight
warming his head.

The man hustles
to familiar faces,
hugging,
kissing,
crying.

Thankful for
one
more
day.
