Flash fiction with the words 'I saw it on TV'
|We didn’t belong here. All around us, strange contraptions zipped past. The noise was deafening. Buildings, whose tops we could not see surrounding us. None of us knew how we got here. Confusion and fear permeated our senses.
Marekh became the leader, not by choice. No one else wanted the responsibility. The first few hours, discord reigned supreme. It didn’t help that our ideas diverged widely from each other.
Lambe was the oldest and the most vociferous. I pulled him aside and spoke to him in a quiet corner.
“Look, we are never going to get out of this place with you being like this.”
I knew he had a soft corner for me and would listen to me.
“What do we do then?” he responded.
“Marekh should take charge. He is the calmest and very intelligent. We cannot succeed if we keep fighting.”
Lambe took a long look at me and nodded.
Marekh agreed with some reluctance.
Filoria, Jurok, and I heaved a sigh of relief.
Marekh found a large sheet of paper in the building where we had landed. We let him work in peace. An hour later, he signaled for us to draw closer. He had figured a way out of our predicament.
Jurok had a question.
“How did you come up with all this, Marekh?”
Marekh looked up from the large paper. His ancient eyes squinted in merriment.
“I saw it on TV.”
Five blank faces met this strange utterance.
Filoria spoke after what seemed an eternity.
“What is a TV?”
Marekh waited, enjoying the general befuddlement he had caused.
“You will never know as we are heading back. But it’s something that will come about in a hundred years.”
