What I had in my youth
Sometimes I hate
The girl I once was
How weak and defenseless
How willing to be beaten down
But she was only growing
She was learning to be
The person I am today

Now I look back at her
And wonder how
She had the strength to survive
How she had the power
To make it through to today
And although I don’t know her
Like I feel like I should know her
I wish I still had that fire

Now I’m complacent
Content in my life
Nothing challenges me
To become a better person
I envy her somehow
Despite how painful life was
Because of her bravery

I don’t want to go back
I just want to go forward
With the same fervor
As my old self
I want to be as proud of myself
As I am of my youth
Someday, someday
