Four boys get their most favorite treat ever.
Luke, Blake, Ben and Miles were walking home from trick-o-treating.
“Look, the lady in the last house gave me money ! That means I can get a toy!” All four boys showed loonies to each other.
“Are we finished already?” Blake wondered.
“No! Up the hill!” Ben insisted.
The boys turned to look where he was pointing.
“Hill too,” Miles chimed in.
“It’s not a high hill , so we’ll be able to make it!” Luke said taking Ben’s hand.
“Okay, but this is the last stop!” Blake agreed.
So they began to climb the slope, the older two helping the younger ones. Ben kept giggling and wanting to roll down. Miles wanted it too, but the two older ones reminded them they were trick or treating, not running or rolling down a hill, fun as it was.
When they got to the top, they ran to the door and Miles and Ben both rang the bell. The door opened and an older woman smiled at them, admiring their costumes.
“I don’t many get trick-or- treaters, so I’ll have to give you four something special. I’ll be right back!”
When she returned, she dropped a flat object into each boy’s bag. After thanking her, all four children ran full-tilt down the hill and headed home, all out of breath and laughing. When they got back to GG and Grampa’s place, they dumped out their treats to count them.
“Where did you get these?” asked GG.
“The lady at the top of the hill gave them to us. We couldn’t see what they were in the dark!” Luke told her.
“That’s Mrs. Pearce, she used to be a librarian. That’s probably why she gave you each a book !”
The boys cheered and settled down contentedly to look at their special treats.
