New beginnings from old worn out words
There is a proclivity
These days
For snarling

Lives, betrayed
By a divisive cornucopia
Of mangled facts, beliefs

Espoused and married
To barking political dogma
Untamed by reason.

Empathy or compassion
Are lost words,
Unneeded In this season,

Of strewn up lights
Traditional holiday song
And present offering.

Something is missing.
I think it is the breath of charity.
I think it is still and deep within us.
