Ann introduces Amita to her self.
Not mad,

But time travel leaves you

talking to yourself,

or worse

By J. P. Fellows

The teleportation/time-travel [TT FADE] effect is done digitally as a mat overlay, [green screen] over a half of a second. First, the scene with the extra character replaces the black part of the scene, then the black and red, then black red, and orange. And so on, finishing with the white. TT fade-outs should be done in reverse order. Excessive care to ensure to scenes match, should not be taken! Just shoot the actors in roughly the same relative position, with the same perspective and camera settings.

INT:- WORKS CLASSROOM - MID MORNING

A group of ten people meeting to discuss the in principal layout of the sewage plant for a new English new town. It's break time so most of them are gathered around the kettle. The group includes TONY PARSONS. The manager of the sewage works that the meeting is taking place in. GORDON SMITH project manager of the new plant. BILL and BEN two junior members of the design engineering team. AMITA MISHRA the plant microbiologist, she is a fourth-generation British Indian, she plays up her Indian identity to annoy her mother. DAVID JONES, from head office. [ANN MISHRA]

                             TONY

All I am saying is that they should set aside space for a plant three times as big as they have.

                             GORDON

I agree. It will be much cheaper in the long run. But the government wants to build a new town, for 120 000 households, they want it cheap, and they want it now.

                             TONY

Whatever the government says. This is motivated by the fear, that one of the at-risk ice sheets is going to collapse

(they get their drinks and move back to sit around the tables.)

                             GORDON

It has to be a concern. Much of the sewage infrastructure is near or below sea level.
When the shit starts washing up on the end of people's streets the gov...

TT FADE

(ANN MISHRA appears standing on the table. If she was twenty years younger the cut of her dress would be daring. now it sort of sad. Its colour scheme lemon, orange and purple, could really only be carried off by the colour blind or the very beautiful.)

                             ANN

Professor Ann Mishra your friendly neighborhood time traveler here.
Here to make you redesign this plant, into a fusion-powered plant that gives gas for a Hydrogen economy

(everyone looks at Amita, then back at Ann)

                             BILL

         Impossible

                             BEN

If a fusion power station had been built we would know about it

                             BILL

Fusion is really difficult it needs all sorts of specialist materials and equipment

                             DAVID

Miss I don't know how you got in here but. You really don't expect us to believe in time travel.

INT:-A SERIES OF UNIVERSITY HALLS - GRADUATION DAYS

A younger version of David Jones has just received his degree and is heading off stage. Ann steps out of the wing grabs him and kisses him passionately

                             ANN

You will remember, and you will believe.

(there is a quick montage of Ann kissing the other members of the group, in their youth. But not Amita)
CUT

INT:- WORKS CLASSROOM - MID MORNING

The group is sat around the tables looking confused.

TT FADE

Ann reappears this time in her forties, wearing a white crochet poncho and possibly nothing else. Handing out a stack of documents.

                             ANN

I kissed you all at your graduation so that you will remember, and you will believe.
Now the documents in front of each of you are a copy of the thesis report that you will be submitting to Nature, for publication. The glossy one is a publicity brochure for the plant you are going to build.

                             AMITA

You didn't kiss me at my graduation.

                             ANN

NO. I wanted our first real kiss to be with Harmony outside the toilets of the bar girl, that long passionate kiss on the lips, followed by those delicate kisses along...

(Ann kisses Amita on her collar bone, working from the center to left. then she gropes one of Amita's breasts. Amita runs to the end of the table)

                             AMITA

What are you. You can't. Why did you do that!

                             ANN

I don't know. I don't know why it was done to me when I was sat there. And I don't know why just did it. It seemed like the thing to do. Predestination?
NOW. Fusion is not hard, it's really easy.

                             BILL

no, it's hard. If it was easy that would solve all of the problems of the world.

                             ANN

See that yellow thing out there. There is it and billions like it. Fusion is natural, just set up the right conditions, and away it goes.

                             BEN
If it is that easy the govern....

                             ANN

The government does not want fusion, because if everyone who wants can make a fusion weapon out of household materials, then they would have to treat everyone with respect. No more us-and-them, divide-and-rule. National Governments can not function like that.

                             BEN

         The conditions needed to...

                             ANN

The conditions needed to make fusion work are easy. Pressure and temperature.
Gather around me and I will show you the plant you will build, and explain it to you.

                             DAVID

She's come back through time to save the future of humanity.

                             ANN

I've come back in time to see to it that I have a good life. Get closer. Closer

TT FADE

EXT:- AN INDUSTRIAL/CHEMICAL PLANT - DAY

They appear on a catwalk high up, next to a pressure vessel.

                             ANN

Have a good look gentlemen. This is what you are going to build.
Inside here there is the makeup water which is serving as neutron shielding.
Inside that is the steam vessel. Steam at 1800 degrees, very corrosive stuff.
Inside that is the reactor core, a large sphere full of highly compressed Hydrogen.
A tiny fusion explosion at the center of the sphere, sends out a shock wave, That shock wave bounces of the wall of the sphere and travels back in compressing and heating the gas, so as to trigger another tiny fusion explosion.

                             BILL

How do you start the first explosion? I mean even if you could design a system that is precisely resonant, how could you start it.

                             ANN

Time to get out of here
TT FADE

INT:- A PLUSH EXECUTIVE CONFERENCE ROOM - MORNING

                             ANN

The leakage of neutrons that close to the reactor is not exactly healthy.
If the reactor is too small it will not be able to lose heat quickly enough and it will melt its self. So the trick is to make it a bit too large and keep it ringing by adding intense sound energy at exactly the resonant frequency of the system

                             BILL

even using resonance effects you will still need a more powerful sound source than is practical

(Ann gathers them around a set of models she uses to demonstrate)

                             ANN

Gentlemen if you look at this model.
This here is the thermoacoustic stack, it generates a very intense, very pure sound, form heat

                             BEN

          ThermoAcoustic?

                             ANN

Heat and sound. It is in the documents that I gave you. You will be downloading DeltaEC from Los Alamos Labs.

                             BEN

         DeltaEC?

                             ANN

DeltaEC, Design Environment for High-amplitude ThermoAcoustic Energy Conversion, produced by Los Alamos.
This is going to take way too long if I have to keep repeating myself. Let's get back to class.

CUT

INT:- WORKS CLASSROOM - MID MORNING

Classroom empty
TT FADE

They all appear in the classroom stood in the same rough positions. And quickly make for their seats

                             ANN

Turn to page twenty-two this out lines the start-up procedure.
Basically the reactor vessel and the upper part of the thermoacoustic tube are filled with Hydrogen gas under very high pressure. The lower part of the thermoacoustic tube is at a very much lower pressure. Adiabatic cooling of the Hydrogen as it escapes through the thermoacoustic stack causes a massive temperature gradient, across the stack. Between that and the hiss of escaping gas, the thermoacoustic stack makes a very intense sound.

                             AMITA

All well and good but this is a sewage works?

                             ANN

         turn to page five and....

                             AMITA

And how come my name is not on this document everyone else is but not me?

                             ANN

That's because I'm here to take you away from all this.
We keep a villa in the Greek islands. Nineteen ten to nineteen twelve.
Harmony is waiting for you there.
TT FADE OUT ANN AMITA

EXT:- GREEK ISLAND LESBOS - AFTERNOON

As they arrive a younger and slightly older version of HARMONY. And three incarnations of Amita/Ann are relaxing by the pool.
