A short poem that holds a surprise or two, dedicated to a very underappreciated animal.
She-wolf stalking quietly through grove and gutter alike.
Phantom huntress-pilgrim; she slips by unseen to most.
In her eyes luminous mirrors reflect gloaming light.
Dark deliverer of drip-fanged death; striated umber ghost.
Execrated brooding mother: hundreds hatched in quickening night.
Reviled, hated, trampled for the terror she evokes.
