Script about aliens living amongst the residents of a retirement home.
This is my first time posting my writing. I have been a member for a few years but have not had the confidence to post yet. Finally worked up the nerve to post something. This is the beginning of a script I have been working on. I thought I would share it here and hopefully I will receive some feedback on my work. Thank you to those who may take the time to read.

Title: In the know
Characters
ANDY: Caustic; late 80’s LENNIE: Affable; mid 80’s
Setting
INT. OLD FOLKS HOME – ANDY’S ROOM – AFTERNOON
Andy sits in his wheelchair by his bed in a cubicle of a room. Lennie sits opposite in a wheelchair. Both are facing an almost empty bookshelf except for a wooden picture frame with a picture of a family of three and a needlework kit.

ANDY
Don’t ask me or mention my family to me, and we can talk.

LENNIE
(Looks at Andy then at the picture) Who is that in the picture?

ANDY
(Looks at doorway)
Nurse!

LENNIE
Whatever man I was just asking. You can’t kick me out of your room already I just got here.

ANDY
I told you not to ask or talk about my family.

LENNIE
How was I supposed to know that they were your family?

ANDY
How could you not know? My son looks just like me.

LENNIE
What do you do around here?

ANDY
You are looking at it.

LENNIE
Needlework?
(Laughs at it.)

ANDY
Laugh now but in a week you will be doing it to.

LENNIE
What is for lunch today? Do you know?

ANDY
Schmaltz flavored mush, if you are lucky you might get a little salt and pepper on the side but don’t count on it.

LENNIE
Sounds good.

ANDY
After lunch you can go to the Media room. Some of the other residents like to go in there to play cards.

LENNIE
What do they play? Do you know?

ANDY
Pinochle.

LENNIE
Really?
(Raises eyebrows.)
I used to play pinochle when I was younger.

ANDY
You better know what you are doing before you join one of the games here. They take it seriously around here. You are better off watching TV in your room.

LENNIE
Or I could just do needlework with you.
(Jeers)

ANDY
(Scoffs.)
I doubt that.

LENNIE
Where are the clocks in this place?

ANDY
I am not sure. Why? What, You got a date or something?

LENNIE
No

ANDY
Then why does it matter?

LENNIE
I guess it doesn’t.

ANDY
You will get used to it.

LENNIE
Time doesn’t matter anymore. Does it?

ANDY
Nope.

LENNIE
Have you been outside at all ? since you have been here?

ANDY
I have been here 3 years and haven’t left since I got here. There were promises made but never kept when I was brought here.

LENNIE
Promises?

ANDY
Yes. Promises of, we will visit every week. We will bring you home for Sunday dinners and pick you up for your appointments. They kept up their promises for a year or so and then they just stopped or forgot.

LENNIE
Oh.

ANDY
(Retorts.)
Oh. Exactly.

LENNIE
I have no family myself.

ANDY
How can that be?

LENNIE
I am an extraterrestrial.

ANDY
So phone home.
(Snorts.)

LENNIE
Very funny
(chuckles.)

ANDY
I knew an alien girl once.

LENNIE
Yeah? What happened to her?

ANDY
Nothing. As far as I know she is still living around here.

LENNIE
Is she living in this building?

ANDY
As far as I know.

LENNIE
Well find out for me.

ANDY
Why?

LENNIE
I want to meet her?

ANDY
Who?

LENNIE
The alien who lives here. Who else are we talking about?

ANDY
We could watch an alien movie if you want.

LENNIE
Yeah. Ok. I guess.

ANDY
You like aliens.

LENNIE
No. I said I am an alien.

ANDY
Nurse!
(Yells for a nurse and looks at doorway.)

LENNIE
Quit it.
(Waves his hands at Andy)

ANDY
You need meds.

LENNIE
I am on meds.

ANDY
You have gone nuts.

LENNIE
Wait. I’m nuts? You just said you knew a girl who was an alien.

ANDY
Yeah I know a girl who might be an alien.

LENNIE
So where is she?

ANDY
She is probably in the media room.

LENNIE
Why would she be in there?

ANDY
Sitting in there probably watching a movie about aliens.

LENNIE
Does she play pinochle with the others?

ANDY
(Shrugs shoulders.) She might. I don’t know. I don’t leave my room much. .

LENNIE
Do you think she will be in there after lunch?

ANDY
Sometimes she is. Sometimes she is down the hall in her room.

LENNIE
Down what hall? This hall?

ANDY
Yep.

LENNIE
Well where does she go down the hall?

ANDY
(Shrugs shoulders)

LENNIE
Does she ever come in here?

ANDY
Once in awhile she will.

LENNIE
What do you two do?

ANDY
I mostly sit and watch her.

LENNIE
Watch her do what?

ANDY
(Shrugs shoulders and takes a piece of peppermint candy from his pocket and sticks it in his mouth to suck on.)

LENNIE What is her name?

ANDY
(Reaches for his throat, red in the face)

LENNIE
(Cont.)
The alien.

ANDY
(Claws at his neck with a choked look on his face)

LENNIE
(Yells with a concerned look on his face)
Andy? Andy? What is wrong? What is happening?

ANDY
(Chokes on peppermint candy)

LENNIE
Nurse! (He tries to move his wheelchair the wheels are locked.) Nurse! Help!

ANDY
(Goes ridged then slumps with head hanging down in chair.)

LENNIE
(Yelling while reaching out for Andy)
Nurse!
