A neighbor helps an elderly lady to get her cat out of a tree 300 words |
The Rosie Rescue Operation I was shocked to see my elderly neighbor Mrs. Prescott dragging a ladder past my window. Hurriedly I thew on a jacket and went out my back door. I watched her struggle to get it against a tall tree. “Mrs. Prescott, can I give a hand?” “Unfortunately, no, “she replied out of breath. “What’s going on?” “My Rosie has decided to climb a tree, and I’m going to have to talk her down.” “At least let me hold the ladder for you and keep an eye out while you do it.” “That’s very kind, young man.” I hurried over and braced the ladder, then watched her climb to a big branch. I could see Rosie, her chunky Persian, sitting in a crotch in the branch even as she cried non-stop for help. I was surprised she could climb that high, as she was strictly an indoor cat. Mrs. Prescott let got with one hand and began to wobble. I held my breath until she was steady again. I could hear her making coaxing noises while she held out food. Rosie sniffed it but did not move. “I’m going to come up behind you, Mrs. Prescott and maybe I can grasp Rosie...” “No! She’ll jump!” “Okay, I have another idea. I’ll get my long-handled fishing net. If she won’t go to you, I can catch her if she does jump.” I ran into my garage and grabbed my landing net. It was made for large ocean fish, so I thought it should hold a slightly plump cat! “I’m back, see if you can grab her.” I watched her try, but Rosie was too petrified. I started barking like a dog. That did it. Rosie leapt into the net. I soon reunited the two and escorted them home. |
