And So, It Goes

Jan walked around, still looking for where she left her phone. She didn’t want to go out without it in this weather, and she and Ginnie were already leaving late.

Ginnie was ready, like any four-year-old who knows birthday parties are lots of fun! She was standing by the door, which was open.

“Don’t go out there,” Mom said, “it’s pouring!” the last thing she wanted to do was have to change Ginnie’s clothes. Ginnie loved running around in the rain, a trait she inherited from her father…

“But look Mom! It’s so pretty!”

“It’s pretty wet too! If you get wet, we won’t be able to go until you’re in dry clothes again, and you’ll miss lots of the party fun,” Mom said, hoping it would remind Ginnie about where they were going.

Ginnie did stop, obviously thinking this through. Mom relaxed and went to the kitchen to look for her phone, chastising herself for losing it again.

Ginnie looked back out the door. It looked so pretty! The rain was bigger than usual too, giant drops that bounced off the steps when they hit. Too much to pass up.

Mom came back minutes later, found her phone. But, no Ginnie. Rushing to the still open door she looked out, not seeing her right away, she got nervous and started yelling, “Ginnie! Where are you?”

“Right here!” came her voice, from outside…

Stepping out, Mom started her lecture “I told you not to go out, it’s too wet…” But when she looked around, she still couldn’t see Ginnie. “Where are you?” she yelled.

“I’m here!” came a voice from under the steps. “And I’m not wet at all!”

And she wasn’t! However, she was covered with soft dirt from under the steps. And so goes motherhood.
