Guess Who

“Someone is following us,” Tina whispered, “don’t look!!”

“Who is it? Why can’t I look?” Angela asked.

“It’s a guy, he looks about our age, but it isn’t anybody I ever saw before. When I looked back, he stopped and pretended he was looking in the hardware store window. Then the next time I looked he was still following us.”

“Well, there’s two of us, how big is he?”

“Not a football player, but what if he has a gun?”

“You watch too much TV! A kid our age wouldn’t have a gun!”

“Well yes, but if he was a crook or something bad, he might have a gun then…”

“What are the odds, let’s find out who he is!” Angela whipped around faster than Tina could stop her and started walking toward the guy. Tina followed quickly…”

As they got closer, Angela called loudly, “Hey, are you following us?”

The guy stopped walking; they walked up to him.

“Well? Are you?” Angela said.

“Kinda…” the boy said.

“Kinda?” Angela asked, “Why would you ‘kinda’ follow people?”

“Well,” he said, “you two looked about my age and I wanted to see how you got to school from here.”

“To Richmont?”

“Yeah. We just moved here. Dad brought me to the school to enroll last week. But we went to a bunch of other places too, so I wasn’t exactly sure of how to get to the school from our new apartment. I figured you two looked my age, you were probably going there. So, yeah, I was following you.”

Angela smiled, “I’m Angela, that’s Tina, you?”

“Randy, Randy Bellmont. Are you juniors?”

“We are! Here’s the turn.”

“Hey, does that hardware store carry brooms? We need one.”

Both girls laughed.

One of them married Randy eight years later. Guess who.
