Dottie explains to her friend Gregor why she has no fear of Friday the 13th 300 words |
Looking At Thirteen A New Way Gregor looked at the calendar. His face blanched and he pointed wordlessly. Dottie came up beside him and patted his shoulder. “What’s the matter?” “That will bring bad luck,” he said. “Ah, there’s nothing to that old wives’ tale about Friday the thirteenth being bad luck. It will be bad luck if you think it will. As for me, I just add one and three together when I'm tempted to believe it.” She could see Gregor doing the calculation. “You mean four. What about it? “It’s my lucky number according to numerology.” “Perhaps I will think about today like that too. What are you doing today?” “I’m going for a walk, want to come?” Gregor nodded happily. So off they went arm in arm. They were walking slowly, when suddenly Gregor tripped and went sprawling. “What happened?” Dottie asked as she helped him up. “I started thinking about Friday the thirteenth.” “That’s why you need to remember four. Are you okay?” Gregor said he was, so they kept walking. Dottie began to sing a song she made up. “Four is the only number that we need today. It’s more useful for this day.” Soon, Gregor was singing along with her. When they came to a park, they left the sidewalk and began to stroll the paths so they could hear the birds and admire the flowers. Dottie was sure all this beauty would keep Gregor from thinking about bad luck. “Ow! “ Gregor looked at her. “Are you all right?” “I think I sprained my ankle!” “Don’t tell me you started thinking about bad luck?” he said. “Just briefly.” Let’s get a cab. I can see your ankle swelling as we stand here.” “It’s four, not thirteen,” she kept repeating all the way home. |
