From a prompt on this website is a short story. |
I walked to the door that leads to my backyard with a outside pool. It was one of those outside pools dug into the ground. White concrete that surrounds the entire pool. I went outside the door to look at the beautiful scenery. I see a partly cloudy, blue sky. Leafy Palm branches, swaying in the wind. I look to see my flower garden, with variety of flower blossoming to the sun. I turn my gaze to my pool with the clear, blue chlorinated water with a body inside it. I was about to enjoy some other views of my backyard, when I had to do a double-take back at the body that was in my pool. I ran from the door frame to the edge of the pool. The body was that of my girlfriend. My girlfriend earlier had went out to the backyard with some wine in hand to sit next to the pool. She must have been to inebriated that she must have fallen in at the deep end of the pool and drown. She is faced down, back up. I dived into the pool, head first. I surfaced a few inches from her. I grabbed her and rotated her body to get her face out of the water. I shake her, "Babe, you alright!?!" No response. This is frightening! I swam her to the edge of the pool, lifted her out of the pool and lay her on the edge of the pool. I get out and kneel down to her. I place my cheek to where her mouth and nose. I feel nothing nor hear any signs of breathing. I know what to do, but I didn't think I'll be doing it to the girl I love. But I got to do it. I tilt her head back and lift her chin to open her airway. I double check for breathing and I use my first two fingers to find the pulse at her neck. No pulse and no breathing still. I pinch her nose shut, use my other hand to open her mouth. I open my mouth and the press my mouth onto her mouth. Blowing air into her mouth, I saw in the corner of my eye her chest rising. Thank God, she doesn't have a blockage in her throat. After seeing her chest go down after I stopped, I give her another breath. After giving that last breath, I move my hands to the middle of her chest. Right on the breastbone to do chest compressions. After giving about close to 30 compressions, I went for a rescue breath. In the midst of that breath, she started gasping and coughing out water. She's alive! |
