Life is Good

I had to pick my daughter up at her school, to go pick up her car at the tune up place. She’s the principal at the K to third grade school in town. She asked that I come about an hour after school ended. She was involved in busses and pick-ups, then needed a bit of time to do some office work for tomorrow.

I had shopping to do, so off I went knowing I could get all my stuff and still be there when she was ready. I hadn’t expected to be early, but I was. So as not to interfere with her work, I wandered around the school a bit.

We’d moved into this town when Sharon was two, so she had gone to this very school as a child. I always teased her about working at the school she’d gone to for four years. She always came back with she loved it then, and loves it more now.

Staying out of her way, I wandered around the school I’d barely been in since she was a child. Getting to a kindergarten room, I suddenly popped into memories of my own childhood. Here, there were a couple desks, but also drawing tables, and lots of play things. A giraffe and a horse over by the wall, an obvious group area with a big fluffy rug, and sitting pillows. Even the ceiling was involved with balloons and toys hanging down, and the windows all had paintings on them. I was enchanted. My kindergarten had only the desks and blackboards. Even Sharon’s when she started, had more work supplies than fun. This looked like a delightful place to start growing up.

Suddenly, I was more proud of her now than when she graduated from college. Life is good.
