What happens when a marriage bond tethers your minds?

The gentle scrape of a knife against flesh was the only sound in her room. Kyra stared unblinking out the window, scraping away flaking skin; the midnight ink beneath crawled, etching another year. A permanent reminder of their eternal bond.

Three days of uneaten meals littered the table. Their shared marital bond, cold and silent. She called out to him.

No response, though she could feel his presence. Her stomach twisted itself into knots - whether she was hungry or nervous it did not matter. She called again.

Silence.

Kyra picked at her fingernails. She pressed against the edges of his mind, looking for the crack he always left for her. Firmer than normal, she pushed hard.

It gave slightly; her body shuddered, goosebumps formed. A heat flushed her cheeks in an anticipation she wasn’t sure what for. An embarrassing slickness formed between her now crossed legs.

Kyra’s face contorted in agony as moans filled her ears. Her head snapped toward the mirror; brown eyes wide in fear. She lurched forward into the table, steadying herself, fighting against the pleasure coursing throughout her body.

She tried to leave his mind, to shut close the gap, but his arousal was too great. Kyra buried her face in her hands, sobbing; unable to leave the tormenting ecstasy that surrounded her.

Betrayal. In her own skin.

A thunderous scream rattled through her fractured mind - Daven’s or his whore’s she didn’t care. Kyra rocked in her seat, feeling love that should have been hers.

It wasn’t hers.

She sat, unmoving. She allowed every pinprick of pleasure, every moan against her lips, to fuel her anger; fingers indented the table in protest.

Her sobbing stopped.

Something feral took over. She clawed at him, harder than she’d ever scratched before, feeling his defenses crack under her fury. His walls buckled under her pressure. Every time she broke through more of his pleasure empowered her rage.

Kyra let out a bellowing scream, her strength breaking the table. She hammered his walls further. Bile rose in her stomach, his pathetic ecstasy sending waves of nausea throughout.

Trapped in his mind - he was her prisoner now.

She screamed again, enough to rattle Daven’s bones. Fear filled the void where his walls once were.

Kyra let him sit in that moment - alone, exposed. Tears ran down her cheeks, but they weren’t hers. He was terrified.

“You win I’m sor-,” he began.

Kyra laughed softly to herself, able to feel his raw fear.

Even broken, even terrified, he was still there. He would always be there. The bond that gave her strength to break him - would keep their shattered minds tethered forever.

Kyra whispered into their space, “The stars, Daven,” she paused. “We made our vows among the stars.” Her eyes settled on the tattoo.

“They remember everything.” She picked up the paring knife, turning it inwards. “I’m grateful I’m not one.”
