The Park Just as I opened the door my phone rang. Surprised, I jumped, spewing my bag across the floor. Digging my phone out, I grabbed the milk, leaving the rest of the groceries all over the floor. “Hello?” I said, kicking myself, again! I could have looked at ‘Caller ID’ before I answered… “Hello! Angela!” said a cheerful sounding voice. Just as I was about to speak, the milk slipped from under my arm. It bounced down, popped open, and spewed milk all over the kitchen floor, and all the other groceries. By the way, my name is not Angela. However, I was so aggravated by the situation I just went with the flow. As I grabbed the dust pan and the paper towels to sop up the floor, I said, not kindly, “What do you want?” “Come on Angela,” the voice said “You know what I want, I’m trying to be nice about this…” Well, now I was intrigued! Whoever this was, was trying to wheedle something out of Angela. I had to be careful. “I am being nice… how about you?” “Well, I certainly didn’t plan that!” she said. Ah ha! She did something that would rile up the real Angela, and now she’s trying to defend herself! “You could have acted differently…” I said, in an accusing, but still on the threshold, voice. “Honestly Angela, I was just as surprised as you, I never should have let that go! Please! Can you forgive me? I was just trying keep the peace!” She sounded sincere. So, I let it go, “I’m sorry too. Let’s start over.” “Yes!” she said, delighted! Meet you at the park!” She hung up. Now I really had to rush! I needed to get to the park quickly, so I could see who I was!!! |
