A friend asks me to watch her ancient baby

There’s a baby with me
And he’s not my son
He’s over 700 months old
And he never cries.

I call him over to cuddle,
But he’s not my baby;
We go on nature walks together
But he’s four times the size of a pram.

His favorite words are
“What’s new?”
And he dislikes showers
More than a three-year old hates diapers.

His sweetheart left him with me
For 12 hours while she saw her relatives.
And she said he had lovers;
I’m certain that is not the course for me.

At the end of the day
He sees the world as a baby
Brilliant earth out there,
Every earthworm fascinating.

Our next trip is to the museum
Of natural history, and I would miss
All of these trips
If not for his company.
