The Spill Issue

“Oh crap!!”

“Catch it quick!!”

“How can I catch it it’s all spilled out!”

“Towel! Don’t let it go under the fridge!!!”

The boys practically flew around the kitchen. Finally, they had things under control. Somewhat…

“Crap! We have to clean this up before Mom gets back!”

“Wash the glass, thank goodness it didn’t break! I’ll mop up the floor.”

Chaos continued…

Finally, the floor was clean, and dry, and not sticky.

“What should I do with the towel?”

“Hide it where nobody will find it. And this one too, and the cloth! We can throw them in the wash next week.”

“Got it!” Dan picked up the cloths and ran. Bob looked around and started doing more.

Chaos persisted. But finally, the glass was dried and put away. The juice was all soaked up, and the floor washed and dried where the juice had puddled. The juice bottle was run under the hot water till the outside was clean, and then put back in the fridge. And the towels hidden where they will not be found.

The boys looked around, satisfied, just as they heard the car drive into the driveway. They made it!

Mom came in with bags of groceries. As she opened the fridge to put the milk in she saw the apple juice bottle. “What happened to the apple juice? And why is it so empty?” she added...

The boys froze. As she turned around, she saw their faces and added. “Tell me the truth.”

It was a long and never forgotten afternoon for the three of them. Mom told the story often about how they “covered” the incident, and tried to hide it. And how the closet they tossed the towel in stunk like crazy two days later!

The boys never did find it funny…
