Fix It

It was raining. We’d had more rain that summer than sun and now heading into fall, and still raining. At least I don’t have to feel bad about the gardening anymore. Unfortunately, the fall shift is always to inside the house.

I’m pretty good at keeping it clean, but very bad at fixing. I’ve had one lamp for probably eight years that I turn on by plugging it in. Every time I turn it on, I think about getting it fixed, every time! And then when I unplug it to turn it off, I forget all about it. Time to start fixing!

Of course I couldn’t do the electric stuff. I don’t want to burn the house down! But other things! I sat down and made a list.

The leaky faucet in the bathroom. Just a new spout. But then, I’d have to deal with finding out how to get the old one off… Well! The door to the coat closet keeps getting stuck! Shave it down? With… sandpaper? No something stronger… but, how do you keep it in a straight line?

This is nuts. Well, how about the wobbly shelf in the kitchen! I could take it down, and bring it to the hardware store to get another one! But what if they don’t sell that size? Does the hardware store make you one that fits? If I have to pay them, why don’t I just hire a repair person to come here and do all the stuff…

I spent the loveliest day making a list of what needed fixing! Then I hired a fix-it person! Who happened to be a guy I went to school with eons ago! Woo woo!

So now, two years later, I have a fix-it husband, who fixes everything, including me! Isn’t life weird!
