What do you give Mother Nature on her birthday? 300-word Flash |
The Power of Music Floriana picked up her violin. It was Mother Nature’s natal day tomorrow and she had been unable to find a suitable gift for a mother. “She doesn’t like a party, because she says they only remind her how old she is,” mused the blossom fairy as she tuned her instrument. She began to play some exercises to limber up her fingers and bow hand. “There must be something I can do to show I’m thinking of her on her day,” Floriana decided. Then she remembered an experiment she’d done once. “I could make a maze of flowers using music. I know just the song too, The Waltz of the Flowers.” The morning of the birthday, Florianna stood outside Mother Nature’s door and began to play. As she played, she wandered in the approximate formation of a classic maze. As she got caught up in the music, something she did regularly, she began to play louder and more exuberantly. Finally, out of breath and with sore fingers, she was forced to stop. The maze was beautiful, with tall flower hedges of different kinds. Floriana could not even begin to see over them unless she flew upward to a dizzying height. Then it hit her. “How do I get out of here?” she whispered to herself. She determined the best way to do it, was to fly as high as she could and fly over the maze to the opening. She was so exhausted, she hoped she would make it. Regardless, she had to try. Floriana started out strong, but about half-way out, she grew too weak to stay up high enough. Just as she was collapsing to the ground, Mother Nature showed up with her court. She was rescued and borne back to the palace to rest. |
