Rainy Saturday “If only the rain would stop…” thought Tina, looking out as it continued to pour. She had so many things she wanted to do this Saturday, all requiring being able to go outside. She had a raincoat and umbrella, but that was so awkward and you’d need to carry it all into the mall… If she could drive, she’d be fine, but walking to the mall was too far in the rain. Getting Mom to go with her would be worse. Mom would go in and would have “opinions” on everything she wanted to buy. Taking a deep breath Tina sat down still looking out the window, as if looking at the rain would speed it up. Sitting there, thinking of more things than the shopping dilemma, she noticed a fly on the window. It was walking back and forth across the glass as if looking for a way out. Feeling in a bored trap with this rain, she actually spoke to the fly. “You don’t want to go out there, it’s pouring!” The fly stopped moving and actually seemed to lift its head to look at her. She stared back. Then the fly said, “I like the rain.” Tina jumped, totally startled by the talking fly. “You talk?” she said. “Everyone talks,” he shot back, “Usually other beings don’t listen…” As she tried to think of what to say next, something shook her. She woke up! It was Mom, “Are you awake? I know you wanted to go shopping, but I have some things I need to do, can I just drop you off?” “Sure, Mom…” Tina said, astonished, waking up completely now. “Oh good. It’s a lovely day too!” Mom left. Tina looked out the window at the sunshine. And there was a fly on the glass, smiling. |
