Two brothers go into the woods together. 300-word flash |
| A Hunting We Will Go “Get your coat and boots, Cecil. Mom says I have to get you outta the house.” “Where we going, Cedrick?” asked his little brother. “We’re going hunting,” his older brother said. “Then I'll get my weapons,” Cecil said racing off to his room. He emerged with a sword, an axe and a hammer. Cedrick eyed the collection dubiously. “What are we hunting for?” “Monsters.” “I 'm not scared, but I better get my shield,” Cecil decided and ran back to his room. Together the two brothers started out for the woods behind their house. The trees were thick and close together; there was very little light in the small forest. Cedrick kept looking at Cecil to see if he was scared. But his brother was hard-eyed and watchful. Without warning, the pair heard snarling. A large wolf, walking on his hind legs, lunged at Cecil. He repelled it with his shield and threw his axe. It felled the wolfman with one blow. Cedrick cowered until he saw his little brother looking at him scornfully. “Where are your weapons?” he asked. His big brother said nothing. They kept moving. A huge bat swooped down on Cedrick. Without hesitation, his little brother took its head off with his sword before it bit. By this time, Cedrick was terrified and tried to turn for home. But the sound of galloping hooves made him hesitate. A headless man on horseback was coming for them both! Cecil threw his Norse hammer at the head that the horseman was carrying in one hand over his head. It was knocked to the ground and trampled by the fiery horse. When that happened, the apparition disappeared. Cedrick piggybacked his exhausted little brother home and vowed never to go out without weapons on Halloween! |
