Sneaky Halloween

“It’s a trick,” Rand said. He had his arms crossed, and a look on his face that Addie knew very well.

“Oh?” she said, knowing it would rile him up. Addie knew it was the easiest way to get him interested in something, pretending she wasn’t.

“Of course!” he shot back. “Who would leave all that on their steps? They’re probably hiding behind the door watching to catch someone touching it!

Addie knew that though he loved the seasons, he never remembered when it was, beyond hot, cold, clear, raining, anything that might touch his skin. He had reasons. He hadn’t had the healthiest body.

Rand had been the love of her life since they were both sixteen. She could write a whole book about him and still have things she knew that were just too long to add. He on the other hand, never seemed to remember her tricks.

“Well,” he said, she could feel the challenge coming … “Why don’t we sneak over and find out…” and he smiled.

Addie smiled too. She knew it was the Westerman’s house and she also know they put candy out for the early birds, (young kids) because they didn’t get home until seven.

They snuck up together. There in the basket was several different kinds of candy! Hard, soft, wrapped, some in little bags… Rand was delighted!

“It’s candy!” he said! “Let’s sneak some!!” and he picked up a bag. Addie grabbed one too, to make Rand happy.

They both turned and ran, just like little kids! Back to their house which had been sold, of course, when they both passed away. This was their first Halloween since they died, and if anyone saw one of them, they would certainly assume it was just a Halloween costume! Not a real ghost…
