steal away from me the night

.
.
As we dined on the moon
Last night wrapped in forever’s arms,
I wake
To find
The sun brings tears for breakfast.
If I would have but known death came with the ‘morrow,
I would have asked for the birds to never start their singing,
The flowers to sleep forever more,
For my arms could not have held you from it.
My body could not shelter you from the rain.
Now I choke on the shallowness of one tear
Knowing you have loosened the latch on the door
Marked no passage, stepped through the threshold of no return.
Why would you steal away from me the night
To leave me alone holding nothing but thoughts of yesterdays
With no dreams of tomorrows?
Was I not enough to quench your thirst,
'Stead you drank from the poison of life
Till you could drink no more
Trying to taste it all in one moment?

Now the sight of the sun brings
Darkness from which grows bitter seeds.
For now, my life I forfeit.
I close my eyes one last time,
Quench one last thirst
We should have shared,
Take one last trip alone
So I may wake in your arms
To walk with you
Through eternities gates.
I feel the cold come for me,
I feel the breath that is no longer mine.
With one last kiss,
You wake
To find
The sun brings tears for breakfast…
