What Tosca did out of joy, became a calling. 300-word flash |
| Snow Ballet Tosca arrived at her favorite lake. Humming ‘Dance of the Snow Fairies’ she leaped from the shore in a graceful jump and began to dance. She was as light as a leafas she pirouetted and did amazing leaps to the tune she’d written. She danced around the lake, moving into a spiral as she went. She didn’t often do that as there was a side effect that came with that particular move. As she reached the center and spun on point, it happened. Snowflakes began to fall. As she continued to spin, they fell faster. A blinding blizzard surrounded her that only fell in the center of the lake. Soon she was shrouded in snow. She snapped her fingers and the snow dropped off her in one heap. Daintily, Tosca rose out of the drift and began to flit toward the shore. When she arrived, someone began clapping. Standing there bundled to the eyes in fur and scarves was Mother Nature. “Brava, my dear. I must get you to join our dance recitals that welcome each new season!” “Tell me something, does it always snow when you do that spiral?” The Snow Fairy nodded. Mother Nature patted her hand. “Don’t worry, you’ve done nothing wrong. In fact, you seem to have a special skill. Come and see me tomorrow morning during my office hours, I have a job you might enjoy.” Tosca was at Mother Nature’s office door long before time. She was ushered in by her secretary and given a seat and a dewdrop in a flower cup while she waited. “Here’s what I want you to do from now on in the winter. In places that are in need of snow, I will send you to do your spiral magic to make it come faster.” |
