This poem is about two friends who meet after a long while.

Serena Quintilla

A woman entered my cafe,
She was an outline in the dark;
She stood as pretty as a lark.
Behind her the men watched to play
A contest over who would start.

She kept a distant air around ~
No one would violate her trust,
She asked for tea, alone she must,
Despite there being little ground.
She knew of people and their lust.

At last she was safely seated,
Drinking her tea in silence there,
Watching the door with a fervent stare;
Only by me was she greeted ~
Others looked on from everywhere.

I'd known her years ago it seemed
When we'd lived in another town.
Those days trailed like a long white gown:
We were young then; had played and screamed.
In those fun years we'd loved, not drowned.

There would be time for family,
But not yet while the fun's so great;
Going with this one, that one, fate ~
They'd each been handsome, most manly;
We were not looking for a mate.

All the room sensed we'd had a past~
More than one said "Oh marry me"
But we'd say "No" most lovingly.
Finally we've remet at last,
And I've put whiskey in her tea.
