Not Every

A girl once accused me of only writing dark poetry... so I wrote her this in response! :)

Not every night is haunted
laying innocence to rest,
not every knife intended to
be pierced into your chest.

Not every shallow draft of wind
is a whispered word of hate.
Not every snapping twig you hear
the encroaching hand of fate.

Not every smile hides a
secret malice deep within,
not every single tear we shed
is born because of sin.

Not in every shadow lurks a
villain for his mark
And...
Not every poem I write
is tragic, deep, or dark.
