Cat's Day

"My name is Cat. Never been anything else as far as I know or remember. I don't have any family to speak of, unless you count all the cats I live in the alley with.

" I don't consider them close, as we all keep to ourselves for the most part; except for certain turns of the moon when males become necessary or when danger threatens us all. As for any truck with humans, that's out of the question!

" Actually, at several low points in my life, I've seriously considered choosing a human home to move into. But I just as quickly changed my mind! Especially when I get chased out of all those lovely odiferous garbage cans by human missiles aimed at my beauteous head!

" Speaking of eating, it's time to start my daily rounds; care to join me? First stop today is Mama Sophia's. Ahh, Mama Sophia! If I were to choose a human home, hers would be the first one I'd try!

"I never have to pick through garbage at Mama's. All I do is scratch at the door of her restaurant and she comes out with a heaping bowl of scraps for me. I always allow her to streock me and croon to me in Italian, its the least I can do for such a feast.

"Next I do a thorough inspection of all the back alleys in my territory. This takes most of the day, although I always return to Mama Sophia's for lunch and supper. I have so many messages to check and answer as well as strange cats and dogs to either welcome or repel. Doing my duty is exhausting.

"Finally, I get to have some fun! The Back Alley Chorus needs me! I have the most melodious and well projected voice of them all and consider it an necessity to attend and take part in the nightly concerts. It could only improve them and in spite of the risk of a barrage of so-called tributes from unfeeling humans in the larger audience every night, I continue to share my exceptional gift with the world!

"The after party is often long and raucous, but I wouldn't miss rubbing elbows with my fans for the world. I always end up at my home alley just as day is breaking, as usual. As sleep takes me away, I'm grateful for yet another typical Cat's day!"
