when a lone wolf met a bird, and had a talk

In a forest so huge, where trees tower proudly above the ground
A strange meeting was taking place, one where there is wisdom to be found

A curious bird was flying carefully around trees, spotting a lonely wolf
Until the latter turned around and said:" even when far from me, it would be wise to watch yourself"
Afraid yet determined, the bird said:" but I'm not used to seeing your kind roam alone in this land, so why?"
"The pack is not my home anymore, and I'd rather start giving this life a serious try"

"But even wolves need children and family, can you say you're fine without them?"

"No parents to return to or wife to protect or children to raise, that has been my life for a long time"
"I got used to it, as it has and will always be about survival, and nothing else"

"Such a sad life, alone no one survives for long, that has always been common sense"
"You need others around to love, to cherish, to eat with and to live"
"And without that, there is not much left, but darkness and grief"

"And since when did we wolves look bright to your kind? was it when we tore your brethren apart?"
"Go away little one, for curiosity can be fatal, and I'm in no mood for easy prey, or for a hunt to start"

"But I really want to know, if your state is by choice, then what benefits are you really seeing?"
"What actually makes you fine with this? a state of mind I thought I would never see in any being"

The wolf took a long breath, sat down, then asked:" tell me then first, how do you see the world?"

"A place worth living, with all kinds of friends to find!"
"Those you laugh with, those you hang around with, and those you can only admire for being so kind"
"A place where you live your highs and lows with others, so that pain becomes less and happiness is doubled"
"A place in which you live your days as happy as you can, even during the ones when you're troubled"
"It's all about sharing, both the good and the bad"
"Otherwise, life would be meaningless: a reality in which everyone lives so sad"
"And what about you? how do you see the world?"

With a dead look in his eyes, the wolf uttered:" what world? wake up already"
"How do you ask anyone about the world, when all they've seen about it is a forest really"
"Not everyone has wings little one, perhaps you tend to forget that reality"
"When you can go anywhere you want, it makes things very pleasant and easy"
"So, allow me to show you the reality, of those who can only walk"
"It is not such a pleasant life as you might imagine, and about that I'll talk"
"But first let me change the question you asked to: how do you see life?"
"And the answer is simple: full of betrayal, death, and strife"
"Here on the ground, you only have cunning, teeth and claws"
"Should things get dire, then you better have some stamina and strong jaws"
"Love? friends? family? those words do indeed sound nice"
"But they are hard to find when your days are full of hunting and flesh to slice"
"I used to roam with others, until they started stealing my food"
"I used to trust others, until they rejected that trust to get more loot"
"With your wings, you can easily go anywhere else far, should you see a place unfit"
"While we who walk can only stay, unable to move so far, and deal with it
"So I think it's easy for you to understand now, why this loneliness you see"
"It was first an obligation, then a choice i made to make things easier for me"
"Maybe I'll find others to roam with again, maybe I'll even make my own pack"
"But until then I'll look after myself as I should, and find preys to track"
"So fly away now, little one, enjoy your freedom while you can still fly"
"I've actually enjoyed our talk so i won't mind you this time, and hunting you i won't try"
"Never get close again to danger though, take it from a predator"
"Because if you ever do it again: you'll see the merciless side of this world, this life. and it is such a painful fact for your kind to uncover."
