The Love That Changed

I sleep beside a stranger now,
Though once, your breath was home.
Your laughter used to pull me in
Now silence carves the bone.

You didn’t change, not all at once.
It’s worse than that it’s slow.
A fading touch, a colder glance,
A love that learned to go.

And then they came like sudden light
Through cracks I tried to seal.
A kindness I had long forgotten,
A hand that let me feel.

I never meant to want like this,
To smile when you weren't near.
To burn beneath another gaze,
And wish that you could disappear.

He saw me, he truly saw me.
Not just the shape I wore for you.
Not just the peace I tried to fake
But every storm I never knew.

I kept it quiet. Locked it tight.
Because I swore I’d never lie.
But every word I speak to you
Feels more dishonest than goodbye.

You hold my hand I flinch, I fake.
I whisper “love you” out of shame.
But somewhere else, someone awaits
Who speaks my soul and knows my name.

I ache for them in rooms you built.
I dream of them inside your bed.
I wake and there is no mistake.
